The Medium preset in DiRT 3 is what the Xbox 360 version looks like. DiRT 2 on Ultra is equivalent to this on High without Ambient Occlusion. Graphically, this game is extremely inefficient. Rally is a European dominated race, it's sad seeing it so Americanized. They also need to start focusing on real racing instead of smearing Ken Block and testosterone everywhere. Most of the rally stages are just variations of the same stage and the tracks can get very easy in places. Overall, the impression I get from this game is that they made it more rally oriented while cutting back on rally content, which makes it fall on its face a little bit. For a joke, I set all the tuning options to the silliest settings I could think of and the car was still perfectly drivable. I also wish they would bring back the car-tuning options of Dirt 1 as the options in Dirt 3 have little affect on how the car handles and drives.
Not only does it have nothing to do with rally or off-road racing, it's absolutely tedious and frustrating. To be perfectly honest, this is actually worse than the X-games. Secondly, the X-games malarkey has been replaced by by Ken Block's Gymkhana stunt-driving rubbish. For starters, the majority of the rally stages barely last longer than a minute and a half and the tracks themselves are very wide and the only challenge comes from annoyingly placed obstacles such as logs or tractors. Unfortunately, these pros come with some cons. There is more rally stages now and the X-games stuff has been toned down. For the most part, these predictions were correct. I heard Dirt 3 was more rally oriented and had less X-game involvement. What turned me off from Dirt 2 was the testosterone-fuled X-games garbage which had swallowed the game and rally-racing was given a backseat. There is more I got into Dirt 2 and 3 beacuse I really liked the rally in Dirt 1 and was hoping these would improve on that. Today PCARS3 is the SMS designed project taken over and released to the market far from expectations.I got into Dirt 2 and 3 beacuse I really liked the rally in Dirt 1 and was hoping these would improve on that.
Maybe PCARS4 will be the multi class racing game we wanna. although in that case, maybe it would have been better to re release GAS like they did with the Nintendo Switch. Either because they decided not to keep spending money/resources on it early on because they knew they would be working on PC3 some months later, or they just decided to launch a tiny game on 2019 to complete the cycle with F1 2019 and Dirt Rally 2.0. Grid was just a place holder until that other game comes out. PC3 is most likely coming out this very year, and so Codeasters will switch support from Grid to that one. So maybe, just maybe, Grid was caught in the middle of all that and the game was kinda shafted during development, because most likely Proyect CARS will overwrite this series, TOCA, and all that. The SMS studios thing is a rather new thing for us all, but most probably has been in talks for quite some time, and maybe even it happened way before they let us all know. I do hope that SMS help them make better racing games in future.Īnd to add to the subject of this thread, yes, there were promises before game release that they will add split screen feature sometimes later. I am afraid they will ruin great team of SMS too. I am afraid that they made a huge disaster, they lost so many fans and players with this mess of a game. It is little too late now, people moved on other games. If you want to know what were the most wanted features, you will find several threads about that.
They never listened to the people before the game was released, after they hit the rock bottom (around 200 active players on Steam, I believe it's the same on consoles), they now want to redeem themselves by adding most wanted features by community. And fans of franchise didn't welcomed that. Looks like this game was made for some other audience, it was rushed out and looks like it was made by new people, people who never played GRID games before. GRID games were all about great story and even more about great MULTIPLAYER and lot of features that were part of online experience. Now I am positive 100% that I will never pre-order Codemasters game, never ! Not because I didn't like it, but because i knew it will be a big disappointment, I knew it after watching few gameplay videos, it was that obvious. This was the first game in franchise that i didn't pre-ordered.
